Animal Control

The City’s Code Enforcement Division has taken on an additional role by providing animal control services. While the City continues to contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Control and Care for shelter and emergency/after hours services, Code Enforcement now handles the majority of the animal control duties in Rosemead.

This includes responding to calls for service such as barking dog complaints or picking up stray or dead animals, sheltering animals temporarily for transfer to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, posting photos of found animals on the City website, and canvassing neighborhoods to conduct pet license enforcement.

During the first few weeks, Code Enforcement found a number of stray dogs. As a result of the City now handling animal control services, and with the proper licensing of these dogs, many of the dogs were returned to their owners immediately.

Licensing Laws
All dogs over the age of four (4) months in the City of Rosemead are required to have and wear a current license tag. (Cat licenses are recommended but not required by law.) Your pet's license is proof of its valid rabies vaccination, as well as its best chance to get safely home if it is lost.

Purchase a License
To purchase a license, you must provide proof of your pet's current rabies vaccination. If your pet has been spayed or neutered, you may license it at a reduced rate by providing proof of alteration. Pet owners over the age of 60 may license their pets at a reduced rate by providing proof of their age. All license renewals must be accompanied by renewal notice.

$20.00 Male or Female
$10.00 Spayed or neutered with certificate
$5.00 Spayed of neutered dog owned by senior citizen (60 years old or older)
