Q: Does the City collect bulky items?

A: Each residential property in Rosemead is entitled to 25 free bulk item collections each year. Subsequent collections can be arranged with Consolidated Disposal for a fee. Call Consolidated Disposal at 800-299-4898 for more information.

Q: How do I dispose of hazardous materials?

A: LA County residents may dispose of household hazardous materials (limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per visit) at LA County Household Hazardous Waste Roundups. Hazardous Waste may be dropped off FREE of charge with proof of LA County residency.

Q: What types of items can be placed in the trash container?

A: The following materials are accepted for collection:
  • Food waste such as meats and vegetables.
  • Meat, game, or fish cleanings that are thoroughly drained and securely wrapped to prevent leakage, odor, and access to flies and animals.
  • Animal waste that is securely wrapped to prevent leakage, odor, and access to flies and insects.
  • Vacuum cleaner sweepings, ashes, or similar powdery materials that are SECURELY WRAPPED so they will not spill or be inhaled when collected.

Q: What items are not accepted for collection?

A: Items that are prohibited in trash containers include household hazardous materials; ammunition; explosives; industrial wastes; chemicals; pathological, toxic, and radioactive waste; acids; drugs; unwrapped human and animal waste; large pieces of metal; machine parts; logs; tree stumps; building scraps such as lumber, shingles, plaster, bricks, stones, concrete, asphalt and drywall. Bulky items such as water heaters, mattress and sofas. Unusually large amounts of refuse such as tree trimmings, house cleaning debris, packing boxes, etc. Do NOT place these materials at the curb. Use a Hazardous Materials Collection Center or rent a disposal bin.

Q: How do I dispose of medical sharps?

A: Medical sharp waste should be returned to your local pharmacist. However, sharps may also be disposed of in a heavy-duty plastic container with the lid properly secured with duct tape, labeled to notify refuse workers and thrown in your trash.
