Council Member Gary Taylor

Gary A. Taylor has been active in Rosemead civic affairs for three decades. In 1974, he was first elected to the Rosemead City Council and has served continuously since, successfully standing for reelection in 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002. Gary has served as Mayor for three terms and Mayor Pro Tem for one term.

Gary has been a long time and strong advocate for property rights protections. He takes pride in Rosemead being among only a handful of cities that don’t have either a city imposed property tax levy or utility user tax.

Gary is a native of the West San Gabriel Valley, having attended St. Anthony’s School and San Gabriel Mission High School, and later enrolled at UCLA Extension, where he specialized in business management, and Pasadena Community College. Gary is retired from the construction industry, where as a Construction Supervisor he managed large and complex commercial and industrial construction projects.

Gary and his wife, Pat, have lived in Rosemead for thirty-five years. They have nine children.



Mayor Pro Tem John Nuñez

Born in El Paso, Texas, moved into Rosemead area in 1958.  Has been active in the Rosemead community for more than three decades.  John Nuñez is currently serving his first term on the Rosemead City Council.  He was elected on March 8, 2005 and at the Council Meeting on March 28, 2005 he was elected as Mayor Pro Tem.  Prior to his election, he served on the Garvey School District Board of Education from 1981-1985 and again from 1993 to 2002.  He was also elected to the Alhambra Unified School Board in 2002 and served over two years as President, Vice President and Clerk of the Board.

In 1996 he was elected to the County Committee on School District Organization, where he served as Chairman and also served on their Policy and Nominations Committee.  In 2000 he was elected as a member of the California School Board Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly for Region 23-A, and in 2003 Mr. Nunez was appointed to the National School Board Association (NSBA) Federal Government Relations Committee, where he served as Chairman for the 31st Congressional District.

Mr. Nuñez has also served on the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association, the Mexican-American School Board Association, the Garvey School District School Advisory Committee, the Garvey Council PTA, and has been involved with the Rosemead Rebels, Junior All-American Football League and the Rosemead Little League.

Mr. Nuñez completed coursework for the CSBA Certificates for Master in Boardsmanship.  He was the recipient of the PTA Honorary Service Award twice, and was also the recipient of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Golden Apple Award.  He served in the U.S. Army (Airborne Infantry) from August 1969 to 1971 and graduated from Mark Keppel High School and attended schools in the Garvey School District.

John has lived in Rosemead for over 38 years and has three children and three grandchildren.



Council Member Margaret Clark

Margaret Clark has served on the Rosemead City Council since March 1991, including four terms as Mayor. Prior to her election to the City Council she was a Commissioner on the Rosemead Planning and Traffic Commissions. In addition to her council responsibilities, Margaret has been an active leader in national, state and regional organizations and agencies. She was elected by 88 cities to serve as President of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities and is a member of the California Contract Cities Association executive board. Margaret also represents the City of Rosemead on the board of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG).

Well respected for her knowledge of water quality and environmental issues, Mrs. Clark was selected by her colleagues from 29 SGVCOG cities to serve as a founding board member on the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountain Conservancy. She has served on the Board of Directors of the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority since its establishment in 1992 by legislative action to oversee clean-up of one of the largest Superfund sites in the nation. Margaret’s environmental credentials also include membership on the National League of Cities Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee as well as numerous other environmental committee assignments such as membership on the governing board of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel River Watershed Council.

Prior to matriculating from college, Margaret studied in Europe at the University of Bordeaux through the University of California Education Abroad Program. She holds a bachelors degree and teaching credential from UCLA, where she met her husband Jim. Soon thereafter, they chose Rosemead in which to reside and raise their family. 



Council Member Polly Low

Council Member Polly Low was elected to the Rosemead City Council in March
2007.  Council Member Low has been a resident of the city for over 20 years.

She is very active in the community and received an award from Senate Majority Leader
Gloria Romero as the Woman of the Year in 2005 in honor of her community
involvement. She also received an award from Congresswoman Hilda Solis in March 2007
in recognition of her commitment to the advancement and advocacy for women.

Council Member Low made the decision to run for  City Council because of her
interest in promoting a more progressive community that is up to date in
development and technology.  She also aims to providing a cleaner and safer
community place for residents by focusing on the removal of graffiti,
providing more patrol, and enhancing the visual appeal of the city.

She has worked in the aerospace industry for over 20 year and is currently
employed by Ratheon as a Software Engineering Manager.  She received her
bachelor’s degree from UCLA and her master’s degree in computer science from Loyola
Marymount University.

Polly grew up in Porterville, California and moved to southern California to attend
college.

Council Member Low has been married to her husband Ving for 20 years.  They
have three children, Kevin, Matthew and Kristi.

She and her husband are very involved in their children’s school activities
and enjoy attending their daughter’s dance performances.  Council Member Low
is also very involved in the PTA of her children’s afterschool program.

 

Mayor John Tran

John Tran is serving his first term and was elected as a member of the City Council on March 8, 2005.  He was selected to serve as the Mayor in March 2007.  He is the first Vietnamese in the country to be selected to serve as a Mayor of a city in the United States.

John was born on November 20, 1975 in Vietnam.  He is one of six siblings and has lived in Rosemead for over 18 years.  He is proud of his three gems in his life, his sons, Joshua, Andre, and Jack.

He has been involved in the real estate industry since 1994 as an agent and consultant.  He currently works with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Mart in San Gabriel.  Through his hard work and dedication, he won many prestigious awards for his sales and service to clients over the years.

John attended school as a student in the Garvey School District during his elementary and middle school years.  He graduated from Garvey Intermediate School and went on to graduate from Mark Keppel High School in what was then the Alhambra High School District in 1993.

John served his community as a member of the Garvey School District Board of Education from 1999-2005, serving as School Board President in 2002 and in 2003-2004, where he became the youngest member ever elected to the Garvey School Board at the age of 23.  During his tenure, he set high expectations for district administrators and staff and as a result, one school was awarded National Blue Ribbon Status, two schools were recognized as “California Distinguished Schools” and three schools were recognized as “California Title I Achieving Schools.  John was also instrumental in the development and approval of two joint-use agreements with the City of Rosemead to build two gymnasiums to be placed on each of our two intermediate school campuses.  As a School Board Member, John served on the Board of Directors for the California Latino School Board Members Association and as a Member of the California School Boards Association.

John was chair of the Garvey School District bond committee and successfully coordinated the work of staff and community to accomplish the passing of General Obligation Bond Q, a $30 million bond initiative, which will benefit the students of the Garvey School District by continuing modernization of the school sites.

He has also served as the chair of the 4th of July Parade and the Halloween Oktoberfest, a community event with a goal of raising funds totaling over $20,000 to help save the historic Savannah Memorial Cemetery.
